Vegetable Herbal Congee

Indulge in the pinnacle of TCM nourishment with our signature Vegetable Herbal Congee, the epitome of a comforting and nutrient-rich meal. Reminiscent of a warming Chinese risotto, our congee showcases five Chinese herbs, each with unique benefits that work synergistically to replenish vital kidney essence, “Qi” and blood, and support rejuvenation from within.

This recipe is renowned amongst our community of mothers, not only for its warm embrace during their post-birth journey, but because their children love it too! It’s this feedback which has inspired us to encourage mothers in all seasons to enjoy and benefit from its deliciousness.

 

To add

2 carrots (chopped), 2 sticks celery (chopped); 1/2 small chinese cabbage/wom bok (shredded), 1 tablespoon fresh ginger (grated), 1 clove garlic (crushed), 1 tablespoon olive oil, 1 tablespoon sesame oil, 2-3 litres of water, 1/2 cup of rice wine vinegar (optional) and 1 tablespoon of tamari (optional).

 

Instructions

Fry-off ginger and garlic in sesame and olive oil on low heat for 2 minutes. Add carrot and celery, stirring for 5-10 minutes until vegetables soften. Add entire contents of this packet and stir before adding water, rice wine vinegar and tamari (optional), andbringing to the boil. Simmer for 30 minutes, add Chinese cabbage and continue simmering until rice absorbs moisture and thickens.
